This may come as a shock to some of you but Cinco de Mayo is in fact an American, not a Mexican, Holiday! To be brief, During the civil war the French were allied with the Confederate army and hoped to use an occupation of Mexico to gain power in North America. When the Mexican troops defeated the French, the result was a strategic victory for the United States.
Cinco de Mayo will be celebrated in Detroit this Sunday in Southwest Detroit! I went with my family last year and had a great time. Check out some of my favorite pics from last year's event.
